Baylor Campus Merit Badge Day Camp - PART 2

What is wrong with me?! For the third time, the posts I post never happen on the day that the event happened! ( This event happened on November 15th. ) I really got to stop doing that. Anyway, I was planning to not go the second time to Baylor because my brother's school was having their annual Turkey Trot, but I decided to go anyhow. I am really glad I went the second time though. Why? Read on to find out.

My Dad realized the week before that I didn't have to wake up so early, so I ended up waking up at 6:50, I think. We got ready and headed out to McDonald's for breakfast. My breakfast was a little different: I had a hash brown thingy, a cup of orange juice, and a sausage biscuit. Then, we waited until everyone got there. Soon, we headed out to the Baylor campus.

I think it was a lot colder that Saturday than the last one, so it was really cold at the Baylor Campus. We were also earlier than before so we found a better parking spot than the last one. The, we went inside and waited until it was time to go back to my first class, Citizenship in the Nation. My Dad had to go to the Turkey Trot so he left me and Ty at our classes when it was time. He said he would be back after my second class, so I was good.

For some reason, we had to wait a while before the leader came and unlocked the door for us to go in. Inside the room, it was pretty much the same as last time: the big screen, the theater style chairs, and the table with the computer on it. We all got to our seats and we began. We ended last week with citizen's rights I think, so we started from there. At the end, we had to begin our letters to a senator of the U.S. However, we had to write about a problem on the news that we saw and I forgot to do that so I was going to work on it later. It was then time to go to Citizenship in the World.

Strangely enough, we were actually let out early from Citizenship in the Nation, so we actually got to the next class and they were still going. We ended up waiting for a few minutes and then we went in. ( I forgot what all we did so I really don't have anything on what we learned, sorry. ) At the end, I had the leader sign off what we had done. But, I still had one more requirement to do so I didn't get the badge. Dang it :( ! Soon, Dad arrived and he took us to the H.S.B. where the next class was.

On the way there, we were talking about what topic we were going to do, ( that was one of the requirements we had to finish before we came to the day camp. ) Ty said he was going to do his topic on fishing and I was going to do mine on reading. After the experience from last week, the trip there was a lot easier. When we got there, we started with separating us to different parents or staying in the room so we could present our presentations. I chose to go with two parents, Ty, and another kid. We were looking for a place to  do our presentations and we soon found an empty room that was good. We started with our topic presentations and the other kid went first. He chose to do his topic on Minecraft Then I went and i thought I did good, too. Finally, Ty went and his was also good. After we finished, we did our presentations of a person that we respect in our life. I chose to do my Uncle Andy. Soon, we were all finished and we got the requirement done. We then walked back so we could get our papers checked off. After a few minutes in line, I got to tell my leader what I had completed: my topic presentation, my other presentation, my video of me teaching my brother how to tie a tie, and my blog. However, I wasn't able to get my blog requirement because the last post happened a year ago. Ty chose to give everyone his teaching requirement, which is how to make a rubber band bracelet. Soon, it was over and we headed out.

Earlier on, I had decided with my Dad that we would go to the Cafe's free Lunch. For some reason, no one else we knew didn't want to go to the free lunch except for Ty and his brother. We headed out to find my leader and then depart to the cafeteria. The only problem was, we spent a TON of time looking for it. At first, I suggested that we should probably just go get some fast food, but we soon found it. We then waited in a line to turn in our coupons for the free lunch. As soon as walked past the lady taking our coupons, it was a mad house.

There were so many different food stations everywhere and there were lots of people. We first found some food, ( pizza ), and then we found a place to eat. The food was so good! And there was lots of stuff to choose from to: burritos, nachos, chicken burgers, waffles, ice cream, fresh fruit, and drinks. Here is a picture of Ty with his mint chocolate chip ice cream and me with my chicken burger and fries:

( In case you didn't realize it, THIS WAS THE REASON IT WAS A GREAT TIME! )

Soon, we were all done and ready to leave. On our way to our car we saw a bear site and we walked over there to see. It was 2 black bears, and they had this cool place to sleep and play around in. Here is Ty, his older brother, and me leaning up against the glass:

We looked at the bears a little while longer and then we left. we took them to our car and then drove them off to our church because their mom was there already. In the car, Ty and me were talking about ice cream  flavors. WE dropped them off and headed home. I had a lot of work to do and I am still working on it, so I'd better get it done.

Baylor Campus Merit Badge Day Camp - PART 1

Just so you know, this event happened on November 8th. Sorry if this seems like a repeat of the last post I posted. Anyway, on that Saturday, I had to wake up at 6:20 in the morning, I think, and we went to McDonald's for breakfast. I had a Sausage Biscuit and a hash brown thingy and we waited for my scout leader and another scout. When every one got there, we headed to the Baylor campus.

My first class was at the Baylor Science Building, (A.K.A: The B.S.B.), so that's where we went first. At the B.S.B., I got a badge for coming there. We also started to figure out where we needed to go and when we needed to get there. My first class was Citizenship in the Nation, my second one was Citizenship in the World, and my third was Communications. I ended up having the same classes as my friend Ty White, so we stayed together throughout the day. When we were all done, we went to the Citizenship in the Nation room.

The room was set up like a movie theater, so I was surprised and excited. Then, my Dad told me that at colleges, they are set up like that. I wondered if  there were going to be any other classes that were set up like a theater. When the class started, we watched a power point on a huge screen. The screen was far away so I couldn't see that well however. We were told by the leader to bring next week a stamped envelope, so I wrote that down on my notes. We learned about the constitution, what a citizen is, and what does it mean to have citizenship. When the class was over, we headed to our next one, Citizenship in the World.

Here is a picture of me and Ty in our seats:

At the next class, that had very nice chairs that you could tip back in and not break. At first, we talked about what happens in the world that affects us all. Then, ( like the first class ), the leader brought down a projection screen and we went to some websites about different causes and organizations. The sign out front said that there was no food or drinks allowed except for water, so I was bummed that I couldn't eat anything while we went to these websites. We were shown a lot of different organizations that I didn't know about. About a hour and 15 minutes later, we were finished and we went to the next merit badge class, Communications.

On the way to the next building, we had something to eat out of my backpack. Then, we had a very hard time finding the classroom Ty and me were supposed to be in. We actually ended up going down the wrong hall and we had to go the opposite direction. I am just glad we made it there on time. We started out listing all the different ways of communicating. Then, we had to try and persuade the counselor to buy a product we were trying to get him to buy. I decided to go with lawn care service because I had been watering the lawn for a while. I ended getting him to buy my product and so did everyone else. At the end, we ended up with a lot of homework to do. ( I actually didn't start it till the next Tuesday, so I was spending a lot of time on it between Tuesday and Saturday. Sorry. ) Finally, it was all over and I was tired and ready to go somewhere to eat.

We headed back to the Baylor Science Building to meet up with everyone and then leave to get lunch. When we all met, Ty realized that he dropped his badge somewhere and was going to go find it. He didn't find it though, and the extras actually costed money. That stunk for him. Then, me and Dad left and went to Carl's Jr. for a burger and onion rings and to a convenience store for a soda. It tasted really good and I couldn't wait to get home. I also hoped I would be done with everything before the next Saturday.

The End of Cub Scouts, The Beginning of Boy Scouts

Okay, first of all, you are probably wondering, "Why is he putting something that happened a couple months ago on a blog that takes place in November? And why did he start a new blog when he already has, I don't know, 3?" Well, first of all, I tried to think of something to put on this blog that had to do with scouting and this what came to mind. Second of all, the first one is old and will never have new posts again, the second one is my new, eventful blog that I have forgotten to post on for like a year, (sorry), and my third one is for video games. This one is for Boy Scouting, (if you haven't seen the title).

Anyway, recently this year, I got my Arrow of Light and advanced from Cub Scouts. As you can see, during the ceremony, they painted my cheeks, from top to bottom, blue, white, yellow, and green in that order. The colors each stood for something, but I forgot what they meant. Also, my Mom gave a speech about me when she was asked to.

Now, I am a Boy Scout and I am working on my Second Class and some other Merit Badges. It is time to continue with Scouting and try to get my Eagle.
